What Is The Cohen Diet?

What is the Cohen diet and what makes it so special? Can it really help you lose weight without any exercise needed?

I will try to answer those questions, and provide enough information for you to decide if you want to try it.

You should always consult a medical doctor before making radical changes to your diet, especially if you are pregnant, extremely obese or in any way suffering from a disease.

What Is The Cohen Diet?

The Cohen diet is an individually adapted weight loss program that is based on gender, age and blood test results. Especially the blood test results are what separate this diet from other diets, as they show if weight-affecting hormones are unbalanced.

It is not an extreme diet, but instead based on eating from a balanced menu that is individually adapted. It was developed by Dr R Cohen after three years of research in the field of obesity and nutrition.

The length of the program depends on how many kilograms of fat you want to lose, and how fast you actually lose them. Extremely obese persons must follow the program longer than mildly obese persons.

Once you are close to reaching your goal weight, a special refeeding program will help you transition to eating more normal foods. When you are done following the Cohen diet, you will most likely never have to do it again since your hormones will be in balance.

Dr Cohen’s Diet Is Based On Research

Research done by Dr Cohen and others have shown that obesity in many cases is caused by hormonal imbalance, and not from bad character (as with PCOS). This makes weight loss especially hard for some people, even if they eat healthy foods and exercise regularly.

This led Dr Cohen and his colleagues to focus on the hormones that have the biggest impact on a body’s weight, and in a later stage design a diet that addresses these hormonal imbalances.

Targeting the three most important hormones involved in weight loss – serotonin, insulin and human growth hormone (HGH) – is what makes the Dr Cohen diet so powerful. In short, insulin controls the blood sugar levels, serotonin is correlated with the feeling of well-being, and HGH is responsible for several different things including fat loss.

A simple blood test will reveal the levels of these hormones in the dieter’s bloodstream. If the levels are unbalanced, Dr Cohen and his team will design an individual Cohen diet plan that will force the hormones into balance. This will radically improve the dieter’s chances of dropping kilograms of fat and reach his or her goal weight.

How Does The Cohen Diet Work?

It is important to say that this is, first and foremost, a weight loss program, and only obese people should follow it. Positive side effects such as an overall sense of well-being should only be considered as a bonus and not the main goal.

With that said, if you have excess body fat that you want to lose, here’s how it works:

First step is to contact one of the many authorized Dr Cohen clinics. Or you could choose a clinic that is not authorized but still uses Cohen’s diet to treat obese patients. Just make sure they are serious and know what they are doing.

In the second step, a blood test from you is analyzed, and the results are used to design an individual plan that is tailor-made for you. Your Cohen diet plan is based on ordinary foods that you already have at home, and no fancy food or expensive pills are required.

The only supplement you must take is a daily multivitamin to make sure your body gets all the nutrients it needs.

Because the plan is individual, the foods allowed will vary from person to person, and thus we can’t give you any examples of a Cohen diet menu or Cohen diet recipes.

The third step is to actually follow the plan, and to do it thoroughly. Exercise is not needed while on the program, but if you do exercise, keep it mild. Once you have reached your goal weight, you can increase the intensity.

The fourth and final step is the so-called refeeding program. This step will help you transition from the Cohen diet to more normal foods. It is started when you are near the weight you have set as the goal, at which time normal foods are gradually reintroduced. The refeeding program lasts around three weeks, leaving you with a new lighter body that is in hormonal balance.

From now on, a long and healthy life is not just a dream anymore.

More Ways To Lose Weight

There are a million different diets and ways to lose excess fat. Everything from starvation, rigorous exercise programs and weird foods, to wearing a special diet patch.

However, we at The Diet Expert believe that nothing beats healthy foods and regular exercise. By eating foods that are low in fat and sugar, and high in protein, vitamins and minerals, 100% of people will see a change to the better. Some more, some less.

Add regular exercise, sell your car and walk or take the bicycle instead, and dramatic results will follow.

The old classic Burn more calories than you eat never gets old. However, for people with a hormonal imbalance, the Dr Cohen diet can still be the best alternative, at least until they reach their goal weight.

What’s The Next Step?

There are no books on the Cohen diet, so if you want to know more we recommend that you contact the nearest Cohen clinic for a consultation.
